Useful Websites For Teachers and Learners
One of the great things about being here at KNUE is that we can share information about teaching with each other. I really hope that you take the time to explore new ideas and new resources with your instructors and other teacher trainees in the program. Here are a few websites that I've found useful for my own lesson planning.
Educational Websites for ESL Teachers
| BBC Learning English |
This site has a lot of great audio with scripts including a weekly interactive 'teen' soap opera. Lots of vocabulary building activities as well. |
| Discovery Puzzle Maker |
You can make all kinds of puzzles to boost your student's vocabulary at this site. |
| Dave's ESL Cafe |
This site has idioms, slangs, quizzes and a great discussion board for teachers to get answers and ideas from. |
| The ESL lounge |
I get a lot of my game boards here as well as some great ideas for targeting specific language problems. |
| BBC Teaching English |
This site has interesting lesson plans, ideas and articles on English education |
| The Word Detective |
This site helps you look up the origin of an English word. |
| Executive Planet |
I've had a lot of luck getting cultural information from this site to combine with English lesson plans. |
| Karin's ESL Party Land |
Both teachers and students can find resources on this page. |
| Clip Art Collection for ESL Classes |
For those of you who want to use images but can't draw, this site could help. |
| The Favorite Poem Project |
You can find poems being read aloud on video with the scripts. I've used it for listening and pronunciation. |
| Selected Links for ESL Teachers |
Here is a list of various websites made for the ESL teacher. You might have to search around for exactly what you need but I've had luck on this site. |

Course outlook
Hello and welcome to the other half of Conversation for Secondary Teachers. For approximately two and a half months, we will be practicing English, exchanging information and ideas, and really communicating in a structured environment. My primary roles in this class are to provide you with a variety of conversation activities and to monitor and advise you on certain problems you may be having. And although it is not a primary goal, I hope you can try using a few of the activities in your classes when you return to your schools.

Syllabus
Each week, we will try to cover one unit in Interchange 3. Any supplementary activities we do will help reinforce the grammar and vocabulary introduced in each unit. The specific objectives for each unit of the book are outlined clearly on pages vi-viii of the textbook so please read them to know what to expect before coming to class.
70% ongoing classroom evaluation
30% oral test (evaluation rubric given later)
There will be 3 homework assignments in the first session and 2 in the second session
① Reading and understanding the rules for an in-class activity (in groups)
② Researching specific internet sites (individually)
③ Cooperating on a social research project (in groups)

Clint's Conversation Classes
My Website: www.macphee.pbwiki.com
Welcome to the KNUE Coversation Department Wiki. Do you know that 'wiki' means 'fast' in Hawaii?
My core Conversation classes mainly focus on communication. My objective is to provide a comfortable environment where trainees can talk, share ideas, and extend the language that they have learned in the textbook. Along with the Interchange textbook, I provide supplementary materials to explore more creative and authentic ways to use English for communication. Hopefully some of these activities will be useful in your classroom after you leave KNUE.

Homework Assignments
Normally, I don't give a lot of homework. However, you will be required to do some of the grammar activites from the textbook on your own time. Most of these are fill in the blanks and matching activities which don't require a lot of time to complete. The reason these are given as homework is that most of the class time should be used for speaking, not independent grammar study.
There are 2 homework assignments in this course. (Session 1)
1. Warm-up -each trainee will design a warm-up and present it to the class
-the warm-up will be approximately 5 minutes long and can be related to any topic you choose

and...
b) share ideas for warm-ups with the other trainees
2. Research Project -trainees will work in pairs to research, assemble, and present information about a social issue
